Musician, Entertainer and Educator

A Dallas/Fort Worth native praised by the Dallas Morning News for his "polished tone and amazing expressivity," Gerald "Gerry" Wood was appointed Principal Horn of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in 2022. He is also Principal Horn of the Colorado Music Festival.

Before joining the FWSO, Gerry was third horn of the Dallas Opera Orchestra and assistant principal horn of the Dallas Winds. A Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps alumnus, he has played everything from video game recording sessions to concerts in China, Korea, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Switzerland, including a solo appearance at Korea's Busan Maru International Music Festival. He is a founding member of The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse, a horn quartet that has toured for more than 25 years, appeared at International Horn Society symposiums, and recorded the album Intuitions.

Gerry is Adjunct Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Texas at Arlington and founded and directs the UTA Honors Horn Camp and the Bluebonnet Horn Festival. He taught at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute for over a decade and has written for The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians.

Gerry, who holds degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and the University of Southern Mississippi, is ABD for the Doctor of Musical Arts in horn performance and instrumental conducting at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Gerry and his wife, Molly, live in Azle, Texas. She and their three children are horn players. A Yamaha Performing Artist, he plays a Yamaha 871D.
