Gerald "Gerry" Wood - Musical Artist Press Kit
Gerry Wood
Musician, Entertainer and Educator
Lauded for his "polished tone and amazing expressivity" by the Dallas Morning News, Gerald "Gerry" Wood joined the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra as Principal Horn in 2022. Prior to this, he held positions with the Dallas Opera Orchestra and the Dallas Winds, and enjoyed a thriving freelance career in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
Mr. Wood's extensive performance experience spans a remarkable range of ensembles - from drum and bugle corps and chamber groups to video game soundtracks and orchestras worldwide. His international appearances include performances in China, Korea, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Switzerland. Notably, he has performed as a soloist at the Busan Maru International Music Festival in Korea and is a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Horn quartet, The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse.
A dedicated educator and clinician, Mr. Wood is the Adjunct Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Texas Arlington and the founder/director of both The UTA Honors Horn Camp and the Bluebonnet Horn Festival, initiatives designed to nurture and inspire young horn players. He also served for over a decade as the Horn instructor at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute and has given numerous clinics and performances at workshops and universities across the country, including two appearances at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. His contributions to the field extend to publications in the New Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians.
A native of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Mr. Wood holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master's in Horn Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Horn Performance and Instrumental Conducting at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana.
Gerry and his wife, Molly, live in Azle, Texas, with two of their three children. He is proud that his entire family shares his passion for music, with all members, including Molly, being accomplished horn players and musicians. And in a lighthearted note - Gerry's been sporting a smooth scalp since his early twenties, and no, his kids don't find it amusing either!
